In the past Auriebat was famous for its water mills and it was at the end of the 15th century that the fortified church was built. The bell tower, over 53m high, is one of the most remarkable monuments in the Hautes-Pyrénées. The village is a passage for pilgrims on the way to Compostela on the way to Arles.
