The Marciac Culture Patrimoine et Tradition association invites you to the conference “THE TRUE HISTORY OF THE MEDUSA RAFT” by Ms. Monique Dollin du Fresnel. On July 2, 1816, the frigate La Méduse ran aground on a sandbank off the coast of Mauritania, due to a command error by its captain. One hundred and fifty passengers out of the four hundred transported by the ship took place on a raft while the others boarded in rowboats, an insufficient number for all the castaways. The terrible and unspeakable adventure of the survivors of the raft was made famous by the painter Théodore Géricault in 1819. But do we really know the adventures that the survivors of this odyssey had to experience? Come in large numbers.
