Samy Thiébault “In Waves”. Samy Thiébault tenor saxophone, alto flute, compositions and arrangements • Damien Varaillon double bass • Leonardo Montana piano, keyboards and sequencers • Arnaud Dolmen drums • Marine Thibault flutes, sequencers, machines Barely a year after the public and critical success of his ninth album, “Aww!” », saxophonist and composer Samy Thiébault unveils a brand new creation, refocused around his quartet and his love for the Ocean, “In Waves”. It is perhaps the saxophonist's most intimate and ambitious repertoire. First of all in its form because it condenses in a chemically pure form, that of the quartet acting like a philosopher's stone, the raw materials separated by centuries and oceans, but all loved and worked by the composer for years, sometimes since his childhood. Like a vast and unpredictable ocean, bringing together numerous cultures linked to the sea and embodied by the musicians of the quartet (the Caribbean, Morocco, West Africa, France, Brazil, etc.), this group is organized on stage and in the studio in unexpected and creative swells, bringing together in a single wave scattered intentions, feelings and points of the globe. Arnaud Dolmen occupies the essential place of drummer while transcending his instrument and his Guadeloupean culture; the Cuban Felipe Cabrera plays the double bass with a sound of unparalleled lyricism, while Leonardo Montana plays the piano and the Fender Rhodes with his inventive and generous touch. A creative residency will take place at L'Astrada Marciac in February 2024, before going into the studio and releasing the album in September 2024 on his own label, "Gaya Music Productions".
